BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — Some of us complain about driving long distances.
Brenna Peloquin logs 70 miles a week.
With her feet.
"I don't really get bored," Peloquin said. "It's kind of a nice little time to yourself."
Right now, the Boise State freshman is taking a little break - running about 50 miles a week.
But it's leading up to the NCAA Championships, who qualified this past weekend.
"That was the hard part," Peloquin said. "That was the stressful part and now I get to enjoy myself."
Peloquin will be competing in both the 5k and 10k races. She'll be the only freshman in the 10k field.
"Usually you do it if you are older," she said.
"We felt she was physically ready and she was mature enough to be able to handle it," head coach Corey Ihmels said.
Ten-thousand meters is roughly 6.2 miles. The race can be a grind, especially when runners are all cramped together.
That's what happened during the race this past weekend at the NCAA regional in Lawrence, Kansas.
"Someone kept tripping on the back of my shoe and almost tripped me," Peloquin said. "She was running too close. So I turned around and was like 'hey watch it.'"
Longer races don't always appeal to an audience. But with the NCAA Championships at Track Town, USA - Eugene, Ore., the race will have plenty of interest.
"Usually everyone is going to get a hot dog or go home during the 10k," Ihmels said. "It'll be packed so that's exciting for them."
"I'm by no means going into the race thinking I am just a freshman," Peloquin said. "I made it here and am along for the ride. That's not my attitude."
Along with Peloquin, The Broncos will be represented by senior David Elliott in the 1,500-meter race and sophomore Minttu Hukka in the steeplechase.
The NCAA Championships run June 8-11.
