Kimberley Newhouse (from left), son Manu Takeshita, 12, and mom Robin Newhouse look for just the right native plants to take home Saturday morning from Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. Each variety of plant was accompanied with signage that described their characteristics and showed the areas on the island where they would grow best. “I think everyone should have a native plant in their yard, or a selection of them,” Robin Newhouse said. “Whether it is for decoration, wreath making or medicine, it just warms my heart to have native plants.”
